About Department
University Department of Zoology, Kolhan University was established in 2011 in the core of Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state to facilitate quality education to young and bright youth of this rural area. Right from its inception, M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses are being offered for the students. Zoology as a subject provides a deep understanding of the structure, behaviour and evolution of animals by using molecular and systems biology approach. It has wide applications in environment, industry, pharmacology, forensic as well as clinical sciences. In recent years, the study of this paper has also tried to induce world-wide interest in students, researchers and the industry. The revision and restructuring of the syllabus of the course are done from time to time, keeping aim of enabling students to acquire the out-of-the-box thinking and technical skills that are needed to excel in today's multi-faceted science of Zoology. Department has adopted blended teaching learning approach along with the implementation of several innovative teaching-learning methods and pedagogies. Active learning strategies such as peer review, group discussions, book reviews, paper presentations, assignments and e-posters are emphasized. Learning in the field is accomplished through field-based research projects.
Aims & Objective:
The primary aim and objective of the University Department of Zoology, Kolhan University is to impart quality education in the subject as a basic science and its applied branches to the students from rural area. The Department is having following objectives:

1. The department introduced semester based examination system in accordance with the CBCS syllabus in 2017. The curriculum was upgrade with the addition of two new courses.
2. The department has been among the pioneer departments to have prepared the syllabus of Four year Under Graduate Programme in Ho, Santali & Kurmali major for all Eight Semester as per NEP 2020.
3. Establishment of Tribal Regional Museum.
4. A total of 16 books based on the syllabus have been published in their respective languages and scripts (Ho, Santali & Kurmali) in collaboration with Kolhan University, Chaibasa.
5. Three National seminars & three National webinar were organized by the department.
6. Total Fifty students have qualified UGC NET out of eight students have qualified JRF
7. MOU with Sidhu Kanu Birsa University Purulia.
The University Department of Political Science was established on 13 Agust,2009. At present, it offers PG and Ph.D. programmes. The CBCS syllabus was implemented in 2017 and new CBCS syllabus in the year 2020 to meet the challenges of the changing times. The FYUGP, NEP 20 implemented from 2022 onwards under Kolhan University Colleges. The eight students have been awarded Ph.D. degree, three students Ph.D. award Viva Voce awaited. The department organizes regularly webinars/seminars, events, activities and lecture series to meet the need of the time, for awareness of national and international importance, and knowledge sharing. The MoU with FM University Balasore, Odisha signed on 11-02-2022 and as per MoU, the Student Exchange Programme between two Universities organized from 26-08-2022 to 02-09-2022 at University Department of Political Science, KU, Chaibasa. The Department also organized RTI awareness Programme at University Auditorium where many PIOs, teachers, office staff and students participated. The department recently organized Special Lectures on G-20, Constitutionalism, SCO, India’s Foreign Policy, Indian Democracy and Gandhi &Hind Swaraj. The University Journal RNI title verified Kolhan Research Journal Quarterly bilingual first issue published in 2023.The Editor of this journal is Dr.P.Sial. The admission in to PG courses are made through the Chancellor portal as per the state government rules. The University Ph.D. entrance Examination KUPET-2022 final admission result is awaited. The department has its own library and reading room apart from University library. Our faculty gives special emphasis on true, inclusive, tolerance, moral, social, gender sensitive education apart from imparting teaching and learning core areas of syllabus. Apart from class room teaching, our faculty is engaged with research and academic activities.

The University Department of Philosophy was established in 2011. As a centre for postgraduate studies and research, the Department has been serving the students of Jharkhand and even outside Jharkhand, aspiring for Postgraduate studies and Research in Philosophy. The Department offers CBCS based two years postgraduate course which is constituted of four semesters. The Department offers core and elective papers in the postgraduate program. As a centre for philosophical studies and research the Department gives an equal importance to Indian and Western Philosophy, covering Classical, Ancient, Modern and contemporary trends in Philosophy. In its academic activities the Department also organizes time to time special lectures, seminars, and talks by subject experts on different topics. The Department also encourages scholars to work on Tribal culture, knowledge systems and philosophy. In the years 2017- 2020 three Research Scholars have been awarded Doctoral degree. Presently seven Research Scholars are registered for pursuing Doctoral degree. In the sessions 2021-2023 and 2022-2024, forty three students have taken admission for pursuing postgraduate degree in the Department.
The Department is committed for the formation of students with regard to character building, enhancement of intellectual abilities, empowering and imparting knowledge with cultural, socio-political, economical and ethical values, development of skillful abilities, competitive professional skills, and for the growth of the dimensions of human consciousness, so that they can lead a better life and build a better society and nation.

The Department published the Book "गाँधी दर्शन शिक्षा एवं संस्कृति" in academic session 2022-2023 to promote research and publication. One of the Faculty Members Dr. Pascal Beck, Assistant Professor was awarded from ICPR, New Delhi of Rs. 700000/ for organizing Three day National Seminar on the Topic "आदिवासी दर्शन, संस्कृति एवं परम्परा" In December, 2022 one Student of the Department qualified NET. The pass out students are almost getting settled in their life and availing their service to society in different areas. Among them many are occupying the posts both in governmental and private sectors as teacher, police, journalist, businessman etc.
