About Department
The University Department of Physics at Kolhan University offers postgraduate programs in Physics i.e. two years of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Physics and Ph.D. programme in various fields of Physics for higher education.
The department is staffed with experienced and qualified faculty members who have expertise in various fields of Physics, such as condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, and theoretical physics etc. Faculties work to provide quality education to students, including both theoretical knowledge and practical training through well-equipped laboratory experiments and research projects in various areas of Physics. The Physics department may also collaborate with other departments, institutions, and industry partners to foster interdisciplinary research and innovation. The Physics department commemorates national and international scientific events on various significant days as well.
Aims & Objective:
The University Department of Physics was established in 2009 with the following objectives:
In 2009, the Physics Department, KU was established with the aim of supporting students in achieving their academic goals to the best of their ability. The department also strives to foster the holistic development of qualities such as resilience, determination, confidence, and creative thinking among students. To this end, it organizes workshops and competitions that help students develop leadership skills. Moreover, the department encourages students to participate in group activities that create a dynamic, interactive learning environment. It provides constructive feedback to promote student self-assessment and motivation, and makes effective use of laboratories and technology to facilitate access to learning. Finally, the department offers scientific programs that equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for career advancement.

The Post Graduate Department of History was established in Tata College, Chaibasa, in 1983 as a part of Ranchi University. Later, with the creation of Kolhan University in 2009, the Department became an integral component of the new institution. Presently, the Department offers M.A. and PhD programmes, both of which are designed to provide students with an extensive and profound understanding of Indian and World History.
The M.A. programme is thoughtfully crafted to equip students with a comprehensive knowledge of historical events and developments from both India and around the world. The research programme of the department is quite diverse, with a particular emphasis on tribal history and culture. This focus allows students to explore the rich heritage and traditions of various tribes.
At present, the department has three teaching faculties: Dr. Sanjay Nath, who serves as the Head, specializes in tribal history and culture with a particular focus on Jharkhand, along with an interest in urban history of medieval Bihar. Dr. Manoj Kumar Saw specializes in Ancient Indian history, while Dr. Deepak Minz's expertise lies in modern Indian history.

Every year, the students excel in their final examinations and pursue further higher studies with great success. Moreover, these students receive attractive placement offers from various organizations, showcasing their capabilities and potential. Notably, many of them display entrepreneurial spirit by establishing their own small business firms that collaborate with local craftsmen and farmers.
The department's research activities are thriving, bolstered by the presence of several dedicated full-time research scholars. These scholars delve into regional and local history, contributing to the exploration and preservation of valuable historical knowledge.
Following the CBCS syllabus pattern, semester IV students were assigned research projects and other assignments for their end-semester project work course. A significant proportion of students opted for field work projects, accounting for approximately 25 percent of the total class strength, which exceeds 200 students.
Additionally, the department arranges lectures and talks featuring esteemed academicians and social workers. These events provide valuable insights and knowledge to enrich the students' learning experience and foster a deeper understanding of various academic and societal issues.

All of knows that Humanity is not a pre-supposition, but a consequence an effect a product of Institution building. In this light, University Department of Bangla has doing the work in its own capacity. Students and research scholars in Bangla were coming from rural areas and belong to the very poor families. University surrounding areas were living mostly tribal and backward classes people and their economical conditions are very poor.
So, In this view University had established in the Kolhan region and started the P.G. Department in Bangla under Kolhan University, which the poor students were acquired the higher education and participation of research activities in Bangla. Now P.G. teaching in Bangla is running of two places (one) University Department of Bangla, K.U, Chaibasa and other P.G. Department of Bangla, Bahragora College, Bahragora.
