UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

About Department

About Department

University Department of Zoology, Kolhan University was established in 2011 in the core of Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state to facilitate quality education to young and bright youth of this rural area. Right from its inception, M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses are being offered for the students. Zoology as a subject provides a deep understanding of the structure, behaviour and evolution of animals by using molecular and systems biology approach. It has wide applications in environment, industry, pharmacology, forensic as well as clinical sciences. In recent years, the study of this paper has also tried to induce world-wide interest in students, researchers and the industry. The revision and restructuring of the syllabus of the course are done from time to time, keeping aim of enabling students to acquire the out-of-the-box thinking and technical skills that are needed to excel in today's multi-faceted science of Zoology. Department has adopted blended teaching learning approach along with the implementation of several innovative teaching-learning methods and pedagogies. Active learning strategies such as peer review, group discussions, book reviews, paper presentations, assignments and e-posters are emphasized. Learning in the field is accomplished through field-based research projects.

Aims & Objective:

The primary aim and objective of the University Department of Zoology, Kolhan University is to impart quality education in the subject as a basic science and its applied branches to the students from rural area. The Department is having following objectives:

  • To provide quality education in Zoology and its applied specializations.
  • To facilitate higher education and research in Zoology.
  • To motivate students for self-employment in applied branches of Zoology e.g. sericulture, apiculture, fishery, forestry etc.
  • To develop entrepreneurship skills in students.
  • To conduct field studies and exposure to students via visits to zoological parks, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
